If you have at least $6K to spend on a timepiece, or just want to drool and add to your Big List, then look through Esquire's 2010 Watch Awards.
The Cartier Calibre watches in this line up were the ones that caught my eye as the most stylish and refined. These watches left me wanting to see it on a man right away. Expect to spend $6,400 to $44,000.
For you watch collectors out there, here is a list of the world's most expensive watches. The Hublot is my favorite (see above). Its a cool million. Start saving now.
Ralph Lauren debuted a line of Slim Classique watches with black alligator straps that use Piaget movement (which aids in the slim profile). They come with or without diamonds. Diamonds are a girl's best friend. I'll leave it at that.
My point about the Slim Classique...it's a trend that you will see more of, and I like it. The chunky watch days are waning. I expect to see more and more slim profile watches emerging on the market. Unless you are wearing french cuffs, unbuttoned cuffs or bespoke cuffs, it's hard to fit those King Kong sized watches under your shirt cuff. Buttoning your cuff behind your behemoth watch makes your arm appear off balance and also sends the message of "Ask me what time it is!"
Speaking of trends. One thing I noticed at the menswear shows was a resurgence of old- school Casio digital watches, calculator watches and G-Shock styles in a rainbow of colors (especially white). Dust off your Atari boys.

I didn't buy any of these for Hendricks Park because I think they went out of style for a reason and are only back in vogue due to Tastemakers boredom and the youthful obsession of anything "retro." The mantra I live by is "just because it's in style, doesn't mean it's my style."
Luckily, they don't cost too much so you can wear them, get a few laughs and when they go back "out" again, you can put them in the dress-up box for all those 80's parties you get invited to.
Inexpensive men's watches that did catch my attention were from Storm of London and Diesel. They both have fantastic lines right now in the $100-$300 price range. What I liked about them is how they combine style, masculinity and fun all into one.

For you conservative guys out there who have a one watch budget, pick a simple timepiece with a leather wristband or stainless steel bracelet. Buy the best quality you can afford because you will wear it every day and will probably wear it for many years.
WARNING: it's not called a bracelet band so you can wear it loose on your wrist like a bracelet. Oh faux pas. This is tacky and annoying as your watch will constantly flop around when you move.
TIP: When having your watch sized, keep the extra links the jeweler removes so you can add them back in if your size changes. And remember, it doesn't have to be tight, just fitted enough so it doesn't slide around like a woman's bracelet.
Watches are an important accessory in a man's wardrobe. Wearing a nice watch can give you a huge boost in confidence and can also be a fabulous conversation piece. Unlike the rest of your wardobe, a watch truly can last a lifetime if you buy wisely (and save up for it). My long departed grandfather's Omega is still going strong (and looking as stylish as ever).
